Essential oils are very powerful and can be intense when put directly onto the skin, especially on children or people with sensitive skin. Using oils straight out of the bottle can be very beneficial, other times it can be dangerous especially with children or pets. So using your oils correctly is always important.
One of my favorite resources in this book by Oil Life.
They just released the 5th edition of this book and I can’t wait to get my hands on it! I use this book almost daily, it has recipes, you can look up the exact symptoms or a certain disease and it will give you a list of oils to use and other pages to read more about it. It keeps you from having to google and get a zillion different answers. You can just crack open this bad boy and get the answer you need easily. I love how easy it is to get a direct answer and gives me more than one oil to choose from.
It’s also always important to make sure to know the right oils to use for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers, babies, and pets. Some oils can be dangerous for babies or pets as they are too strong or poisonous to pets.
I can’t always remember what dilution I need to use for making someone a roller ball so I made myself a chart that I can print and put inside of my book so I don’t have to do the math every time. That way I know I am correctly diluting essential oils and am making sure that the oils are doing the most good. Dilution helps oils reach your bloodstream faster and more efficiently helping you to get the benefits of the oil and feeling the effects faster. Studies have found that when you dilute an oil it’s typically found in your bloodstream around 20 minutes later, a neat application (straight from the bottle) resulted in no detection up to 2 hours later. This is why dilution is so important! It never compromises the oil and it doesn’t make it less pure or change how well it works.
These are the supplies I typically use and recommend!
This is my favorite oil diffuser! It holds a ton of water and oil so it will last for a full night. I normally fill it up before I go to bed so I can run it all night. I have had mine for 2+ years and it still works like a champ! It comes in 3 colors, I have the color toffee and I am planning on ordering another one to put in my living room so I don’t have to move the one from my bedroom to the living room.
These are really cute roll-on bottles in a 10ml size. They come in a 12 pack which is plenty to get you started. I always suggest getting ones with stainless steel balls, I personally think they are the easiest to clean and glide well.
I also love having spray bottles. These are great for making body sprays or perfume. This is my favorite size, they work well for most recipes and for a wide range of things.
I personally use fractionated coconut oil to dilute my oils. It doesn’t have a scent, doesn’t irritate my skin and doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy. It’s also very moisturizing for people with dry skin.
These are a lifesaver for popping off the tops of bottles to refill or get every last drop of oil in the bottle.
My last suggestion is some of these droppers. They are great for putting your coconut oil into your bottles. They make it less messy to fill small bottles. I wash them out so I can reuse them.
